Courto Art
Courtenay May is an Artist based out of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. She began her creative journey at a young age taking art classes with Jimmy Golden at the Ortona Armoury Art Gallery when she was twelve. Her family quickly noticed her passion for art, and encouraged her to pursue it, wholeheartedly. Creativity runs in her family; both her grandmothers’ were painters. Dolly May, especially, well-known within Sherwood Park, only began to pursue painting in her 40's and inspired Courtenay to fulfill her creative dreams and never look back.Courtenay would go on to study fine arts at the University of Alberta where she learnt fundamentals and began her venture into impressionist landscapes, abstract pieces, as well as portraits using bold colours and brushstrokes to create an unique style. She is inspired by artists such as Van Gogh, The Group of Seven, Mark Rothko, Monet, Edgar Degas and Andy Warhol. CourtoArt was born out of fusing her love of art with her love of hiking in the Canadian Rockies. She began hunting for scenic landscape photos with her Canon camera to get the best subject possible. Courtenay hopes this is just the beginning of her artist story.
